Cuisinart Supreme DBM-8 Grinder Review
|
$40-$90 |
The Cuisinart Supreme DBM-8 is probably the worst coffee grinder that will be reviewed on our site. You should read the review till the end before you decide to acquire one.
Depending on where and when you buy, it will run from $40-90, a good fill-in grinder between the cheap blade grinders and the mid-priced burr grinders if you get it for $40. You can get Capresso Infinity 560 for $90. Its stylish design is clean and modern with brushed stainless steel accented by tough black plastic is one of the better sides of this grinder.
This automatic burr grinder gives you a lot of options that are easy to navigate. The 18 position selector lets you grind ultra fine to coarse simply by turning the hopper to the setting you want and following the clearly marked dial. You will think this a distinct advantage if you've ever bruised your fingers adjusting a burr wheel. By setting the slide control you can choose how much you grind, from 4 cups to 18 in two cup increments. The Cuisinart DBM-8 shuts off automatically when it has ground as much as instructed and the timer makes it convenient to leave the room as it's completing its task.
One of the things that pleased consumers most is how easy the DBM-8 coffee mill is to clean. Its grinding burr, hopper, hopper lid and the grind chamber are all simple to remove and wash with mild soap and water. It does feature a built in power cord storage that is good if you're moving it around but you'll usually want to leave it plugged in for easy operation. The grind chamber slides out easily with its lid in place to prevent messy counters. A cleaning brush and coffee scoop are included with the machine.
As good as the Cuisinart Supreme burr mill is, don't expect it to be an espresso grinder.
This burr grinder is great for pour-over or drip coffee and if you've been using a cheap blade grinder you will be positively suprised at the difference in taste. If you want a great French press and espresso coffee grinder, by all means look for another grinder (you might want to read this guide: best coffee grinder by price). Its grind is fairly consistent; you may occasionally see a chunk smaller than what you've set it for but never larger.
Owners of the Supreme Grind report that it does create some powder, more of it as the grind gets finer. It is no more or less noisy than most grinders. The timer is a popular feature, allowing people to multitask and return when the beans are ground. As with all grinders that use plastic receptacles, static cling is a problem but because of the easy access designed into the machine it's a simple matter to brush parrticles away. It should be noted that every grinder that uses plastic will have cling issues.
Reliability is a bigger problem. Many consumers repport various problems why this grinder stopped working. Cuisinart offers 18-month warranty but who really wants to visit a repairman regularly?
If you really cannot invest at least about $90 on a grinder but want to enjoy slightly better coffee, you might choose Cuisinart Supreme.
